InDesign is mostly used for layouts and text for prints such as magazines & newspapers and what not, whereas Illustrator is mostly used for vector designs such as making logos and what not…also Illustrator doesn't lose quality when you resize it because it uses vector instead of pixels to create the design. hope that helps
